FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nuevos Comienzos Community Kitchen Open House This Saturday
Silver City, NM February 23, 2015 – The Nuevos Comienzos Community Kitchen at The Commons is hosting an open house. “An afternoon of food, fun, raffles, music and dancing are on the menu!” Barb Fila, kitchen manager declared. “We would like to showcase our shiny, new kitchen, and have a little merriment in the process.”
After organizing appliances and smallwares for the kitchen, Nuevos Comienzos will be ready to begin accepting applications. Through the efforts of Alicia Edwards, executive director of The Volunteer Center, Friends of The Volunteer Center, a Freeport MacMoran Women’s Development grant, a Rural Community Development Initiative grant, and invaluable input from the Mixing Bowl Kitchen in Albuquerque, the kitchen will be able to assist entrepreneurs in starting and developing their own food-based small businesses.
Information about Nuevos Comienzos will be available, as well as a munchies buffet, with items prepared in the new kitchen. Raffle items include generous donations from Alotta Gelato, Little Toad Creek, Manzanita Ridge, Moonstruck Gallery, The Raven’s Nest, Silver City Food Co-op, Stained Glass Source, Vickie’s Restaurant, and Yankie Creek Coffee House. Music will be provided by Melanie Zipin and the Sugar Leafs. “Don’t forget, we’re a non-profit,” says Barb Fila, kitchen manger. “Any and all donations will be gratefully accepted.”
The Open House will be held at The Commons, 501 13th St. (behind the Knights of Columbus), this Saturday, February 28, from 4:00PM – 7:00PM. More information about The Volunteer Center is available at www.TVCGrantCounty.org.
